Emma Bonanno, LPC, NCC
I am a native of Chicago where I received my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from DePaul University. In addition, I worked at Brooklyn Boulders Chicago as a youth program manager specializing in experiential therapy with underserved urban youth. I combined wilderness/adventure-based therapies with behavior modification to inspire confidence, independence and teamwork in a highly active setting. My Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, with a minor in Leadership Development, is from Regis University in Colorado.
While working with both individuals and couples, my areas of clinical expertise are within the LGBTQ population including, but not limited to, struggles with gender identity. I work with both adults and adolescents confronting anxiety, depression, and severe mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, substance use, PTSD, grief and loss, self-harm, and chronic stress.
My work is always approached in a spirit of collaboration with you to choose the most effective methods of meeting your self-established and recommended goals. My clinical style is warm and collaborative, helping you locate and build upon the strengths you already have in order to create change while challenging behaviors and thoughts that aren't serving you.
In order to navigate the client journey, I determine the appropriate method or combination of solution-focused therapies: psychodynamic, narrative, CBT, as well as mindfulness, visualization and goal setting for performance-based anxieties.
Please call or email for more information or to set up an appointment. I want to help you uncover your best self so that you will be "at home" in your own skin and a willing part of a community.
